Summit Shadow is a first person shooter mod for Half Life 2 that promises to bring something
new to the table. The mod will be a team based deathmatch style showdown in an abandoned village high in the mountains of
British Columbia.
HELP WANTED!!! To make Summit Shadow a reality the team needs experianced coders, skin/modeling
and animators, mappers, sound people, and general modders. Please email me at summitshadowmod@gmail.com to volunteer. This
is not a mod that I intend to just abandon after a few months, and we need your help, so please email me to get on board the
team.
Rather than sticking with the same old class based balancing system from average FPS's, Summit Shadow will give
players the ability to choose from 5 different armor classes, lots of equipment, and 40 firearms, not to mention melee weapons.
The only thing restricting your inventory, weight. Weight determines what players bring onto the battlefield and the more
weight a player carrys, the slower and less nimble that player will be.
The unique armor system will balance the game
by requiring players to choose between faster, high penetration ammunition using weapons, and the raw knockdown power of rounds
like the .45 ACP. A player with a shotgun will be able to easily take down a lightly armored foe, but when a heavily armored
enemy shows up, it will be up to the player using a .223 assault rifle to take care of it. Of course the usual aspects of
accuracy, rate of fire, recoil, and clip capacity are all there too, but a machine gun with 200 round box magazines will encumber
a soldier making them easy targets on the move.
Rather than forcing players to choose between being light and fast,
or armored but slow, in Summit Shadow a player is left to thier own judgement of what the key to success will be. Light troops
will be able to jump great distances, run fast, and they may even choose to equip climbing gear to scale walls in order to
set up the perfect ambush. Heavy soldiers will be able to take a beating while dishing out even more. It is up to the player
to decide how much mobility they are willing to sacrifice for armor and equipment.
How Penetration relates to body
armor: P = Penetration, D = Damage percentage.
Level 5 (Bombsuit): P D 1 40% 2 50% 3 60% 4 70%
5 80% 6 90%
Level 4 Heavy (Riot Control) P D 1 50% 2 60% 3 70% 4 80% 5 90% 6 100%
Level 3 Assault P D 1 70% 2 80% 3 90% 4 100% 5 100% 6 100%
Level 2 Light P
D 1 80% 2 90% 3 100% 4 100% 5 100% 6 100%
Level 1 (No Armor) P D 1 100% 2 100%
3 100% 4 100% 5 100% 6 100%
Why is it called Summit Shadow? The background story below will explain
how a once tranquil mountain village became a hellish battlefield.
In the year 2003 a tourist destination ski area
village in British Columbia known as Summit Shadows was abandoned due to the inevitable risk of avalanches in wake of a highway
project nearby. After the highway was completed the town remained abandoned and a military outpost was established there as
an early warning radar station.
In the year 2009 the Canadian military was shipping a long range missile system through
the area when a harsh snowstorm hit. The convoy was directed to stop at the outpost until the storm blew over and the roads
were cleared. During the blizzard however, an avalanche hit the outpost and everyone inside was killed. The military was slow
to react to the situation since the outpost's existance was confidential and no one was supposed to know of its where-abouts.
They were wrong.
A terrorist organization centered in the area that was labeled as a survivalist group prior to this
incident moved into action. It is speculated that the faction kept a close eye on the outpost through scouts patroling the
area. When they caught wind of the trapped shipment they moved in on the outpost to seize the missiles.
The Canadian
military soon deployed units to combat the militia and recapture the outpost. The two sides fought in the coblestone streets
of the abandoned village while the outpost remained buried under snow. The outcome is yet to be seen...
The village
will have old European tudor style buildings in a dense neighborhood with coblestone streets located in a shop district of
the town. Spruce and pine trees are in and around the village with its parks and decorative landscaping. Everything is densly
packed into a small area of nature meets civilization. The map will be foggy, snowy, and dim as street lamps light the way
using cutting edge dynamic lighting effects. Players will find themselves wandering down winding narrow streets and wondering
if a shelled out building conceals an enemy sniper. Dodging lit up areas will be the key to a players survival.
The
weaponry in Summit Shadow will give players more choice than most FPS games, but each weapon will be balanced and good in
certain aspects of combat, while not ideal for other situations.
Weapon notes:
Rate of fire is classified
two ways, semi, and full auto (S, FA) a high fire rate in semi auto specifies how quickly a well placed shot can be followed
up by another accurate shot, where 1 is slow, and 6 is fast. Full auto weapons are classified by 1 being slow cycle rate,
and 6 being fast.
Scale for all but clip capacity is 1-6 1 being slower, lower, or weaker. 6 being faster, higher,
or powerfull.
Accuracy for Shotguns: 1 is no choke (wide shot pattern), 3 is half choke, and 6 is full choke (narrow
shot pattern).
